Birding in India - String of pearls - Dedicated to Tina

Thank you Tina for given us the Premio Dardos award. We dedicate this post to you as a thank you gesture.
The norms of the Premio Dardos award is to pick 15 blogs who deserve this award for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing. WOW...now that is quite a tough ask.

We love to pass on awards, however, given the constraint of only 15 blogs, here we go :

1. Arnd
2. Bramble
3. Cerstin
4. John
5. John
6. Judith
7. Ken
8. Klaus
9. Maya
10. Mike
11. Philip
12. Randi & Knut
13. Scotty
14. Thomas
15. Zoltán

Now coming to the post; this time around we want to take you into the world of Kingfishers. Though these colorful winged wonders are a delight to watch, it is quite challenging to photograph them. We have been fortunate to observe some of the species and here we present this "string of pearls".

We photographed this Black-capped Kingfisher during our recent trip to Badra wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka, India.
The Pied Kingfisher was our most prized catch at Ranganathittu bird sanctuary in Karnataka, India.
The Stork-billed Kingfisher was a lucky find during the visit to Thattekad bird sanctuary in Kerala, India.
The White-breasted Kingfisher is a widespread resident of India. We photographed this one at BR Hills in Karnataka, India.
This small Blue Kingfisher was photographed at a nearby lake near our home in Bangalore, India

Yes, Kingfishers are truly a delight to watch & one of my most favorite birds.

When I was a child there used to be a pond near our house & kingfishers would perch along the bank in great numbers. And believe me to my foolishness, I used to employ a lot many unsuccessful tricks to catch them with hand :)

Thanks for sharing these Gems.

Thomas, Congrats on your award! You more than deserve this award and many more for your excellent posts. This string of pearls is truly a beautiful string. If anything or any other bird would urge me to make the trip to India, it would be the Kingfishers. These are some of the most incredibly gorgeous birds I have never seen here of course. Your captures are simply amazing and I want to thank you for bringing me closer to the birds of your country. I love watching kingfishers, they are so much fun.

The photograph of the Stork-billed Kingfisher is particularly beautiful. We live next to a stream which attracts 3 species of Kingfisher.

How awesome, Thomas! The kingfishers are a fascinating bunch - such large heads compared to the teeny tiny feet! Each one of these is lovely - I love the Pied Kingfisher shot and the one that is widespread with the turquoise and brown - wow!!!

I have never seen birds like this before. They're beautiful and so are your photos! :-)

Those are spectacular Kingfisher shots. I am in Washington State and the Belted Kingfisher is often hard to get very close to under the right lighting conditions. But I love all of the varying colours in the species you have photographed. excellent.
