Peacock, or Male Indian Peafowl, is a beautiful bird known for its beautiful and brilliant colored fan like tail plumage. The Peacock's plumage can be best appreciated during its courtship dance, which happens on the ground when the male Indian Peafowl displays its long train of feathers dancing and showing off in front of the peahen.
We were fortunate to observe and photograph this wildlife spectacle a couple of times and here is a collection of images showing the brilliance of the Peacock's plumage during its courtship dance.
All images were taken handheld, using jeep rails for additional support, with the D300, 300mm f2.8 with 2x TC.
The striking factor of the Peacock's plumage are the iridescent hues of green, blue, yellow, and brown, which look amazingly different in every angle of light. The three images below show you this phenomenon. The sunlight is falling right to left at almost right angles both on the Peacock and us.

The next three images take a closer look at another wild Peacock's Plumage during its courtship dance.

Thomas, The second to the last one is my favorite. The contrast of the orange-yellow textures with the feather patterns of the bird make it a visual treat!

Excellent shots Thoma. Nice that you shot our national bird with the camera... ;)
WOW Thomas ... incredible sharpness .. perfect job
Wonderful pictures - simply splendid. How can a mere peahen resist such a glorious beau!

Stunning!
Do people eat peacocks? I don't know so I thought you might know. When I was smaller some farmers kept them like watchdogs.
You probably don't remember when people lived and died at home and endured wakes. I wrote about it here. http://bing-it.blogspot.com/
Oh oh oh......these are gorgeous! I don't think I've ever seen such beautiful Peacock photos.
Amazing photos gorgeous beauty!
stunning shots of the peacock. you wonder why they are called peacocks, i've heard they're cocky about their beauty! LOL.
These are beautiful Thomas. I never realized these birds had so many different colors... and as always, your images are so nice and detailed. Very nice. It is a joy to view your nice work. :)

I love all the shots but the last is extra special. It is so beautiful.
I think the peacock is one of the most beautiful birds. They are all over the L.A. Arboretum and I've got so many pics of them. The dance is interesting to watch and I love the sound they make when they first spread that tail and then shake their booty. :-)
Gorgeous photos!
One of the most beautiful birds in the country..I was in Belur yesterday and they woke me up at 4 am..unfortunately could not spot even one though could hear them
Royal, exquisite birds, and You Thomas passed us he eats in the fabulous version. Congrats!

A great series about this nice animal
Magnifique éventail de bleu décliné, well done dear Thomas !
Thomas, these are absolutely wonderful!
Wow, your Peacock shots are stunning! The colours and the details are so vivid. I thought using a 2x TC might diminish the quality but it really hasn't. Excellent series of shots.
Beautiful! I've always loved these birds, but here the only place to seem them is in a zoo (and I don't do zoos). It's nice to see them in the wild as they should be.
And while the close-ups show brilliant detail and color, I really have to say it's the full views I like the most: they help put the entire display into perspective with a sense of how magnificent--and large--the plumage is. Fantastic work, Thomas!
ahk! I'm speechless with awe! Oh my goodness..how beautiful..especially those close ups! You really out did yourself this time. You must have been thrilled with this subject!! ahk! still speechless.
Wow, this is some incredible color - amazing clarity on these shots and an amazing Peacock!! great work!

Brilliant, clean and sharp post of peacock you post here. You learn to me this bird live in the wilderness, not only in a zoo... Excellent capture and great moment. Thank another time.

The first peacock I set eyes on was at the Calgary Zoo as a child. Their plummage is a beautiful display in combination with the haunting cry they give forth.

Spectacular images of this beautiful peacock. Your images are simply the best. Great work!
What peahen could refuse that beautiful display! Gorgeous colors.
Oh Thomas this is heavenly and what is even more awesome is that I just saw one live this past Friday at a provincial park near us. We usually take bike rides there to visit the peacocks (2 females and a male) and I always hope and wish for a show, but nothing.
Well this past Friday, I saw a beautiful courting dance, just like the photos here show and guess what I didn't have my camera with me this time. But what stayed in my mind is perhaps worth even more :) So I love that you have the photos of this, where I can come and reminice :)
This is amazing.
Lovely Creatures, I was lucky enough to see these birds in the wild while in India.
Amazing feathers with their 'eyes.'
Fantastic snaps.

Bonjour Thomas ,
Le paon oiseau de cour des rois garde toute sa majesté et son orgueil dans son merveilleux plumage, les ocelles captent la lumière sur des reflets changeants , en Sicile on les préfère tout blanc .

Wow, a spectacular show, if my suitors would be this demonstrative then i think i'd easily be captured with the colors and dances, hahaha...
So THAT's why lime green and turquoise work so well together - the combination comes from nature. These are breathtaking photos.

Spectacular colors and details in the patterns on the spread tail feathers. You have done a wonderful job on these pics!
Beautiful! It must be something to see wild peafowl. All of the ones I've seen have been captive.
