The Black-hooded Oriole is a widespread resident in India and its striking yellow plumage with a black hood stands out amongst the vegetation. Open broad-leafed forests are their primary habitat, however it is not uncommon to sight them in well-wooded areas like village groves and plantations. The immature have yellow forehead, streaked throat and not so solid black hoods.
Here's a collection of images put together from a couple of sightings of this vibrant bird taken in the Kaziranga and Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuaries. All images have been taken with the D300, 300mm f2.8 mounted with 2x TC.

Thomas excellent photo gallery. The bird is very nice looking one. Thanks for sharing and hope all is well. Anna :)
the bird is beautiful and so are the photographs!
wow, such a beauty and your photos are gorgeous!
I didn't realize you had any species of orioles there! How absolutely lovely!
Gorgeous shots. Love the bright yellow color of the bird.
Visit to Madhav National Park
This species seems different to the Black Headed Oriole (Orolus xanthornus)found in Sri Lanka. I did a port on them recently.

Very sharp and clear pictures you have got there. We have only one place -Langkawai Island that has a few of this bird. We have to be there at around 8.30-9.30 am to see the family of about 3 birds to make its appearance. See how lucky you are!
Nice sharp shots. I myself featured a few shots of an immature Black headed oriole from Kerala on my blog 2 months back (taken with my minolta 500mm reflex lens). Also did you find any other orioles in Kaziranga/Bandhipur? We also have the Eurasian golden oriole and the Black-naped ones.

Nice captures, and what a wonderful contrast of colors in this bird, Thomas. The last one has to be my favorite of the lot.
nice series of fantastic shots! the Oriole is so vibrant.
What a beautiful bird this is.
Remembering spotting this bird up so close in Sindhudurg and I was so excited
These are lovely photos. We have them here in Assam but, as my experiencing has been, these are notoriously shy birds. Even a glance at them is enough to send them flying.
